The shepherd is a symbol of a religious leader, a venerable, wise, calm and noble father who shuns material possessions as vanity. He guards his flock, he watches out for the weakest members and they know he will always lead them where it is safe and into verdant pastures. This symbolic piece is a tribute by Cappe to the nobility of man and he has imbued this piece with almost a living spirit out of the raw clay beneath the feet of the flock.
