The Brothers by Giuseppe Cappé
The elder lad has tamed a white dove and he is showing his ragamuffin younger brother how to treat the bird to a few crumbs. As the Italian population emerged from the horrors of World War 2 they had very little to make life bearable but the wild life and flora which grows abundantly is always a source of solace. Cappé returned from the prisoner of war camp in Russia 4 years after the war ended and was aware of the deprivation of his people and how to draw comfort from very little.
